DAR Dogs Needing Homes
Please browse through all of our available dogs. We do the best to match the known temperament, breed, age, and level of activity of our dogs to potential owners. Some dogs require more training than others; some would suit being rehomed as the only dog or would prefer canine companionship. If you have any additional queries on the dogs below, please contact us at info@dar.ie
All of our dogs are vaccinated, neutered (if older than 6 months), de-wormed & de-flea'd. All dogs receive a health check from local vets. Drogheda Animal Rescue will do its best to assess the character, temperament, and level of obedience of each dog before it is rehomed.
Drogheda Animal Rescue requests a donation when adopting a dog. All donations are used solely for the care of our animals and will help with the expense incurred by Drogheda Animal Rescue for veterinarian costs associated with vaccinations, neutering, worming & de-flea'ing.
The DONATION GUIDELINE below is the minimum amount that will cover our vaccination & neutering costs only. Please bear in mind that many of our dogs are kept in costly boarding kennels until homes can be found, and Drogheda Animal Rescue absorbs this cost.
- Un-Vaccinated Puppies: €25.00
- Vaccinated Dogs & Puppies: €65.00
-
Vaccinated & Neutered Dogs: €150
-
Microchipping: €35.00
All potential owners must complete a rehoming questionnaire and all homes are vetted. Please see section on Adoption Process - Dogs for further details on our adoption policy.

Ruby
AGE: 10-12 months approx.SEX: Female (Neutered)
BREED: Jack Russell x
LOCATION: In Foster Care
DESCRIPTION:
Ruby was found outside the Spar shop in Dunleer on Thursday, January 03rd, 2013 with a bed and a few toys. Fortunately for her the kind staff at the shop alerted DAR and she has been fostered by a DAR volunteer since then. Ruby is about 10-12 months and is a Jack Russell terrier X. She has been neutered, vaccinated, chipped and is patiently awaiting her forever home. Ruby is an energetic, playful dog who loves people especially children (over 5 years) and enjoys playing ball, going for walks and being one of the family. She doesn't like being left alone for long periods so a home where someone is home even part of the day would be suitable. Ruby is fine in the car as her fosterer has taken her on long journeys and she is good on the lead. She doesn't like cats and can be timid with some dogs but is getting more comfortable with dogs she meets and has a few doggy friends now.
If you can give Ruby her forever home, please fill out a rehoming questionnaire.

DESCRIPTION:
Lottie is a lovely, friendly, energetic Golden Retriever lab x who is about 18 months to 2 years old. She was surrendered by her owner and has a history of belonging to several owners, but of no fault of her own. She loves people and children (older than 5 yrs) and enjoys the company of other dogs. She doesn't like cats. Before she went to her current fosterer, Lottie was escaping but as she now has a canine foster pal.
Lottie would do best in an environment with another dog for companionship and an owner who is home more often than not. A secure garden is required.
Lottie loves playing ball, chasing sticks, going for her walks and running into the sea. She is neutered, vaccinated, chipped, wormed and de-flead. She is good on the lead and her recall is fine unless a dog distracts her and she wants to greet it.
If you can offer Lottie a forever home as she has been shifted from one place to another already in her short life please fill out a rehoming questionnaire.

Sandy
AGE: 10-12 months approx.SEX: Female (Neutered)
BREED: Terrier/Whippet
LOCATION: In Foster Care
DESCRIPTION:
Sandy is a young (about 10-12 months) medium size, female dog and she needs a foster home or permanent home urgently. Her current fosterer has done a great job with Sandy over the last few months while she was prepared for rehoming but can no longer hold.
Sandy was originally found in Drogheda, in February 2013, after being hit by a car. She was rescued by members of the public and taken to Westgate Vets for treatment. Thankfully she was not seriously injured, but badly bruised and shaken. No owner came forward for Sandy and she is now ready for rehoming. Sandy has a lovely gentle nature and would be best suited to a home where she can get a fair bit of attention. She is good with other dogs - there is a dog in her current foster home. She is house trained and needs more leash training. She can be quite nervous so needs to be handled gently. Sandy is spayed, vaccinated and wormed. She would make a lovely pet and companion for someone, especially if there is a doggie playmate too! She likes to dig, so no show gardens please!
If you can offer Sandy a permanent home please complete a rehoming questionnaire which is the first step in our rehoming process.

Leyla
AGE: 8 months oldSEX: Female (Neutered)
BREED: Terrier x
LOCATION: In Foster Care
DESCRIPTION:
Leyla was originally found as a stray in Drogheda but her owner was located. Unfortunately, despite many calls, texts and voicemails, her owner never bothered to come and collect Leyla. She is currently in foster care and is now ready for a new home. She is vaccinated and neutered and good to go. Her fosterer describes Leyla as a real charmer but she can be a little enthusiastic at times! She's good with kids but she'd be more suited to older children as she can get a bit excited.
Leyla's fine with other dogs and is currently fostered with two and regularly mixes with other dogs but she can be protective over food towards other animals but fine with people. She doesn't mind cats but she enjoys chasing them at times, so maybe a home with a dog-savvy cat would be best. Leyla is fully house trained and is good on and off the lead. She would make a great family pet where she could get the excersise she needs or she becomes a terror as all adolescents will when bored!
Leyla is a super little dog, still very young and has a lot to offer someone. A home with another dog to help burn off excess energy would be great. If you can offer Leyla a suitable home, please complete the rehoming questionnaire which is the first step in our rehoming process.

Holly
AGE: 4 years oldSEX: Female (Neutered)
BREED: Collie x
LOCATION: In Foster Care
DESCRIPTION:
Holly is a small 4yr old female collie X. She was originally found as a stray pup at about 5 months of age. However the finder's own dog never took to Holly bullying her from time to time and now she is being rehomed and fostered by a DAR volunteer. Holly is neutered, vaxed, chipped, wormed and flead. She is timid but friendly. She is very good with other dogs and is now living with four, all bigger than her. She hasn't much experience with cats. She sees Olie the cat outside and sometimes she barks and sometimes she ignores him. I think in time she would be ok with a cat as she is timid. She is ok on the lead. She keeps close to you on the walk and is getting better at getting back into the car, She is a little timid of men but has improved and is good with kids. She can be a bit of a barker when she get excited as in when a ball is being thrown etc.
If you can offer Holly a suitable home, please complete the rehoming questionnaire which is the first step in our rehoming process.

Shady
AGE: 7-8 monthsSEX: Female (Neutered)
BREED: Collie x
LOCATION: Fostered
DESCRIPTION:
Shady was found in Balbriggan in late Jan 2013 and spent time in Lissenhall Vets before coming into DAR's care. She is currently in foster care and is vaccinated, neutered and ready to find a permanent home. Shady is described as a typical pup, very playful, energetic and loves attention and walks.
She is good with other dogs and okay with cats but tries to play with them like they're another dog which the cat doesn't appreciate but she's improving! She also enjoys chasing the hens sometimes but doesn't try to hurt them. So a home with another dog would be good but some caution needed with other small furries!
Shady's great on recall when off-lead and doesn't wander off but does pull a bit on-lead. She's still young and learning. Overall she's a well behaved young dog who deserves a home where she can get the time, attention and exercise she needs.
If you can offer Shady a suitable home, please complete our rehoming questionnaire.

Ushie
AGE: 2 years oldSEX: Male (Neutered)
BREED: German Shepherd x
LOCATION: In Kennels
DESCRIPTION:
Ushie is a large, male German Shepherd x and he is just about 2 years old now. He is looking for a home with an experienced dog owner who can give routine, structure and activity to Ushie's life. He is fully vaccinated and neutered and is currently in kennels awaiting the right home and owner. Ushie loves his toys and treats and would excel at obedience and agility.
He is bright, friendly, obedient, loyal, clean and happiest when he feels secure in the care of a calm and confident dog person. Ushie is more people-focused that dog-focused and would bond strongly with an owner. He would also probably love a similar sized older female dog for company whom he could idolize as well!
He was originally found as a stray in early 2012 and was rehomed in summer 2012 but came back into DAR's care just before Christmas because it was just not working out for poor Ushie. He is a wonderful dog that so deserves a great home and owner and has so much to give in return. Ushie is not suitable for any kind of security or guard work but on a personal level, his size and colour will give that impression if needed!
Ushie needs an owner who is experienced and confident with large dogs, has the time for a dog, and Ushie will be a loyal and devoted companion in return.
If you can offer Ushie a suitable home, please complete our rehoming questionnaire and we'll get back to you shortly.

BREED: Corgi cross
LOCATION: In Foster Care
DESCRIPTION:
Meet Sampson. Found in Pearse Park, Drogheda on 21st of Nov. 2012. No owner came forward and he is now looking for his forever home.
He is a funny, laid back guy. Easy going and is good with kids, other dogs and it wouldn't surprise us if he is doing ok with cats but can't guarantee that (yet). Sampson is house-trained, is living indoors and loves his cuddles. As you can see, he has big ears and looks completely different from any dog we came across so far.
If you can offer him his forever home, please fill in a rehoming questionnaire and we will contact you to proceed with the next step.

Wyle
AGE: DOB 05-07-2008SEX: Male - neutered
BREED: Pomeranian
LOCATION: Surrender by owner
DESCRIPTION:
Due to changes of the family situation Wyle is looking for a new home. He is a full breed Pomeranian, though a bit bigger than average. He is great with people, other dogs and even cats. But not the best with small children, puppies and kittens. Basically he can't deal with a lot of noise and running around and being pulled at. Wily is used to be in and outdoors.
Wyle is very familiar with all the common commands like sit, stay, give paw and good on recall. He loves the beach, the sea and to play fetch with you.
He is neutered, fully vaccinated and microchipped.
If you can offer Wyle a loving home please fill out the rehoming questionnaire and we will contact you to organise a viewing.

Jess
AGE: 1.5-2 years oldSEX: Female (neutered)
BREED: Crossbreed
LOCATION: In Foster Care
DESCRIPTION:
Jess was found Co. Roscommon with her 5 pups in October 2012. All were brought to safety and Jess did a great job on looking after her pups. Although she was very skinny when found, all her pups were in good condition.
Now she put on some weight and turned out to be a very friendly, placid dog. Great with kids and other dogs. Very easy going and a dream to have around. There is always a but and in Jess's case: she is not good with cats at all.
Jess is a good medium size, fully vaccinated and has been neutered. Her ideal home is a home with people who will love her to bits and no cats or other small fury animals.
If you can offer Jess all the TLC she deserves please fill in our rehoming questionnaire and we will get in touch with you to take the next step.

Jake
AGE: 1 year oldSEX: Male - neutered
BREED: Lab/lurcher cross
LOCATION: In Foster Care
DESCRIPTION:
Jake was found in June 2012 on the Marsh Road in Drogheda, Co Louth but no owner has come forward. We are now looking for a new home for him. He is a medium sized dog. Very friendly with people and still a bit bouncy. He loves his exercise but is not very confident with other dogs. Eventually he will warm up to another dog as long as there are not too many around him. Jake is reasonably ok on the lead, knows 'sit', 'stay' and 'come'. He is a medium sized dog.
His ideal home would be where he can be part of the family, children older then 10 and lots of exercise. He could live with another dog but that should be a placid dog, used to be with other dogs. Jake now lives with a female black Labrador and they even sleep together. Jake is also an escape artist, especially when he is bored, so an enclosed garden is a must.
If you are interested in Jake, please fill in the rehoming questionnaire and we will contact you to discuss in more details.

Suzy
AGE: 1 year oldSEX: Female (Neutered)
BREED: Collie x
LOCATION: Surrender by owner
DESCRIPTION:
Suzy is a young, active, female Collie x and she is looking for a new home because her owners do not have the time to give Suzy the daily exercise and attention she needs. She is just one year old and she is neutered and microchipped. She will be vaccinated before going to her new home.
Suzy is a bright and friendly dog that needs a home where she'll get lots of attention, exercise, play and at least one walk a day. Like most Collie types, Suzy would excel at obedience and agility as it would put her intelligence and energy to good use!
At present Suzy spends most of her time in the garden and sleeps in a kennel but ideally would like to live inside as part of the family. She does not have much experience of dogs, cats or kids, so probably a cat-free home would be best and any children 10yrs+ and a dog companion would be great as long as they get on!
Young Suzy has done some destruction in the garden of her current home because she's bored but this should not be an issue if she gets adequate physical and mental stimulation with daily exercise and attention. She's a young dog that deserves a second chance. If you can offer a suitable home and active lifestyle to Suzy, please complete our rehoming questionnaire.

Paidin & Tinker
AGE: 6 years & 14 yearsSEX: Both Male, Neutered
BREED: Both Terrier x
LOCATION: Currently in kennels
DESCRIPTION:
Tinker and Paidin are 2 lovely small to medium sized male terriers 6 yrs and 14yrs whose elderly owner recently died. As she loved them so much when she moved to a nursing home she had them kennelled nearby so she could continue to see them several times a week for 2 years before her recent death. They are now looking for another home preferably together.
Tinker is the younger of the two. He is a very cute looking long wire haired terrier who is energetic, loves a ball being thrown and is affectionate, loyal and loves his cuddles.
Paidin the short haired terrier has plenty of energy for his age and is happy to potter around but gets excited and friendly when he meets people. As they have been in kennels for the past 2 years they have got out of the habit of requesting the toliet and being walked on a lead but both these activities will come back to them in due course as they were toliet trained and walked on a lead constantly before going to kennels. They are good off lead and on recall especially if there's food or a ball to encourage them.
A quiet home with children over 12 years would be preferable as Paidin sometimes doesn't always hear or see someone approaching him and could get suprised or frightened. They would probably be better without cats, dogs or other pets although they seem fine with dogs. Tinker and Paidin enjoy walks and chasing/playing with a ball and love company. As we realise Paidin is in his twilight years we are looking for someone/family interested in Tinker to consider Paidin as well and act as a long term fosterer for Paidin with any veterinary/food expenses paid for by his previous owner's daughter who wants them both if possible to stay together and to be rehomed in a loving and caring home.
Tinker and Paidin are vaccinated, wormed, flead and neutered. They travel well in a car and are just hoping someone can honour their previous owner's wishes and find them as good a home as she gave them.

Lilly
AGE: 4.5 years oldSEX: Female (Neutered)
BREED: Collie x
LOCATION: Surrender by owner
DESCRIPTION:
Lilly was surrendered because her owners were returning to their own country. Lilly is a lovely, 4.5 year old, female Collie x. She is bright and affectionate and would like a home with an experienced female owner and no other pets! A home in the countryside would be ideal.
Lilly is good off-lead in a field for instance but not near other dogs. She was not socialised or walked much by her owners, so has little or no experience of other dogs, so reacts out of fear. She is eager for affection, so would not want to share her new owner's attention and affection with another dog. For those reasons we feel Lilly would be happiest as an only dog, as the centre of attention!
She is fully vaxed and kennel-coughed and neutered. Lilly has a lot to offer the right person and situation. She loves to play ball and would make a loyal pet and companion. If you think Lilly could be the dog for you, please complete our rehoming questionnaire which is the first step in the rehoming process.

Sammy
AGE: 8 Years of AgeSEX: Male - Neutered
BREED: Terrier
LOCATION: Surrender by Owner
DESCRIPTION:
Sammy is a small male terrier mixed breed looking for a new home and family to call his own. A change in his owner's working schedule and expansion of the family has left little Sammy on his own most of the time and without much exercise and attention. This has left Sammy frustrated, anxious and no doubt a very unhappy camper.
Sammy is neutered and house trained. He's an active little chap who loves to curl up on your lap during the evening. Sammy isn't keen on cats, but what terrier is! He hasn't been socialized around other dogs, so we don't know his behaviour or how well he gets on with fellow canines.
We would like to find Sammy a home urgently as his current family are unable to cope with little Sammy and the family. Ideally a home is being sought with children > 12 years of age.
Also, one last thing! Sammy is experiencing a bit of arthritis and is on anti-inflammatory medication which will have to be maintained. But, we'll get Sammy checked out by the vet before he is rehomed to reassess his arthritis.
If you can help this little fellow, please complete an online rehoming questionnaire. Even if you are interested in fostering him until a permanent home is found, please contact us.
